ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 22, 2014) – A new era of Adams State University football will commence under the direction of Timm Rosenbach (pronounced "ROSE-en-bah") who was recently hired as the head coach for the program. Rosenbach, 48, begins his tenure with the Grizzlies after most recently serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at UNLV.
"The committee was looking for a coach who will build on the solid foundation
Marty Heaton left. Timm Rosenbach is most definitely that coach," Athletic Director
Larry Mortensen stated. "His football pedigree and knowledge are impressive. His experience and enthusiasm will resonate with recruits."
Rosenbach's resume entails six seasons as an offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach split between UNLV, University of Montana, and New Mexico State University. His coaching career also includes time at Washington State University, Eastern Washington University, St. Ambrose University (Iowa), and the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League.
"What impressed us the most was his passion for building a program for this university and community," Mortensen added. "Coach Rosenbach is committed to ensuring our student-athletes are successful on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We are excited to have him and his family to be a part of the Grizzly family."
In his first season with UNLV (2013) Rosenbach's offensive unit tallied the second-most points in school history as quarterback Caleb Herring set a UNLV season-record by completing 63 percent of his pass attempts.
He has coached quarterbacks who earned recognition as a Wueffel Award finalist (high community, athletic, and academic achievement), Draddy Award finalist (academic, community, and athletic achievement), and a Manning Award nominee (nation's top quarterback). Over the years his signal-callers have also received All-Pac-10 Second Team, All-Pac-10 Academic First Team, Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year, and All-Big Sky Second Team recognition.
"Obviously first and foremost thanks to Dr. David Svaldi,
Larry Mortensen,
Dianne Lee, and the search committee for considering me in the first place and now for this opportunity," Rosenbach said at the time of his hiring. "That being said, for me, I've always wanted to be in a position to run my own program and what better place than Adams State."
In his first season as an offensive coordinator at Eastern Washington in 2001 the Eagles led the NCAA FCS division in total offense (514.5 total yards per game & 41.0 ppg.). With Montana in 2012, Rosenbach's offensive unit ranked 11
th in the nation in total offense (NCAA FCS).
Timm RosenbachRosenbach takes over an Adams State team that finished 4-7 during their 2014 campaign which included a 3-6 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.
"Win your rivalry games, win the RMAC Championship, and make it to the playoffs," Rosenbach said in regards to his initial goals for the football program. "Those are the things that have to happen first before we start taking about other stuff down the road."
As a player, Rosenbach finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1988 while playing for Washington State. In his final season with the Cougars he set single-season program records for total offense (3,422), passing yards (3,097), and touchdown passes (24). That season he was selected honorable mention All-American after leading the nation in passing efficiency.
His playing career extended into the NFL as the second overall pick in the 1989 Supplemental draft by the then-Phoenix Cardinals. He would start all 16 games for the Cardinals in 1990 but saw his career cut short due to injuries. His professional career also included one season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
In regards to forthcoming decisions for the ASU program Rosenbach said the following "The first thing is to address the coaching staff issues and which direction we're going. There are a lot of decisions to be made on that end and opportunities for people to be involved. We are going to be very careful in handling that process and move through it as quickly as we can before we get on to recruiting. Once we've got a base built from a staffing standpoint then we can start with recruiting and getting on the road to communicating with prospective student-athletes."
Rosenbach inherits an Adams State team that ranked eighth in the RMAC in total offense and seventh in total defense at the conclusion of the 2014 season.
"When the student-athletes get back from break we'll get everybody in a room and get going on the upcoming season," Rosenbach said on meeting players. "At that time we'll discuss our plans for the offseason, the summer, training camp, and ultimately set goals for the 2015 season."
The Missoula, Montana native holds a bachelor's degree from Washington State in social sciences. He is married to former professional volleyball player Kim Exner and the couple has two daughters, Reece Tammy and Lane.
